Two Super Smash Bros. Ultimate competitive players have recently been banned from events ran by several tournament organizers in the fighting game community. Both bans were made as a result of connections to allegations involving an underage relationship between then 15-year-old competitor Zack 'CaptainZack' Lauth and Nairoby 'Nairo' Quezada.
In response to this, one of the players have since closed their Twitter account after leaving a Tweet that has caused further backlash from the Smash community.
Originally, it was alleged by CaptainZack that he had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with Nairo. This information was seemingly corroborated by Nairo himself in his 'apology' which essentially confessed to the allegations.
However, it was later revealed by Nairo that CaptainZack's allegations against him were false, and that he actually had a friend write up a vague apology. Nairo's new statement told a different version of events to CaptainZack's side of the story. Additionally, Nairo declared that he was planning to take legal actions in regards to the matter.
On March 20, 2021, it was announced that Saleem 'Salem' Young would receive an indefinite ban from any event hosted by Cagt, Grayola and L4st.
Two weeks later on April 3, Ezra 'Samsora' Morris — widely considered to be the best Peach user in competitive Super Smash Bros. Ultimate — would also be banned from all events hosted by the same tournament organizers.
Salem's ban was implemented following a series of screenshots showing him encouraging CaptainZack, a minor, to engage in a relationship with Nairo, though Salem would claim that he didn't know that Nairo was an adult at the time.
